Plasticity is a professional CAD tool for precise solid and surface modelling. In our latest engagement, Plasticity brought nullzwei back as the sole contractor to lead the product's design over several months. The focus was making new features and revised workflows clear to beginners without slowing down experienced users.
The design system introduced with Plasticity 2.0 was still in use, but the product had grown around it. Working as the sole contractor, nullzwei redesigned multi-step operations including Booleans and Arrays. We designed Asset Libraries, the most-requested feature in Plasticity's history, and created more than 100 specialist icons.
Being new to 3D modelling became an advantage: we could see where the product asked beginners to think like experts too soon.
We were learning 3D modelling ourselves, so beginner friction was easy to spot. We also checked each decision against the speed experienced users expect.
This was the third time Plasticity trusted nullzwei with the product. The relationship began with the 2.0 release, when we developed the frontend and made UI and UX decisions alongside OpenPurpose. Plasticity brought us back a year later to evolve the system with collaborators, then commissioned nullzwei alone for the latest phase. Three engagements and a progression from collaborator to sole contractor made that continuing trust visible in the work.
